INTRODUCTION
The long-running and complex Israel-Palestine conflict has historically made the Palestinian story virtually obscure on an international scale. The voices, struggles, and experiences of the Palestinian people have been marginalised for over seventy-five years in favour of more dominant narratives. The events of October 7, 2023, however, signalled a dramatic change in this dynamic. The situation of Palestinians, especially those in Gaza, came to the attention of the world, and this resulted in increased awareness and international sympathy.
Invisibility vs. Visibility: The Palestinian Narrative Exhibition, aims to investigate this change. The exhibition attempts to illustrate how Palestinians, who were formerly marginalised and unseen, have grown to be the centre of attention and advocacy on a global scale through a carefully chosen selection of media products. On the other hand, it also looks at how historically prominent people—like silent celebrities—are now being forced into the background by a watchful and socially sensitive audience.
Each theme part of the exhibition will highlight a different aspect of this shift from invisibility to visibility. With accompanying wall writings, each part will showcase a variety of media products, such as digital artworks, maps, literature, photographs, quizzes and digital activism. These components will come together to form a coherent story that demonstrates how media can change people’s perspectives and give previously marginalised voices more weight.
